It is incredible the number of things our body can take. Between physical pressure, the stresses of everyday life, and the constant moving about we do, it’s safe to say our bodies can withstand quite a lot. That’s why giving them a break every once in a while, is necessary for our physical, mental and even spiritual well-being. This time, we are sharing with you how self-massage, Abhyanga massage specifically, can be beneficial to the health of your mind and body, because making sure our body gets a bit of downtime is the ultimate act of self-care.

So, what exactly is Abhyanga? Abhyanga is a form of Ayurvedic medicine, founded in India, that involves massaging the body with warm oil. From the top of your head to the tip of your toes, this massage combines together both deep circular strokes and warm oil to promote a host of incredible benefits including lymphatic drainage, reducing stress and muscle stiffness, increasing energy, and lowering blood pressure. While this thousand-year old massage technique is nothing new, the oils we use are quite important. Our Natural Body Oil is the perfect product to use, with ingredients like almond oil, which helps with dry skin and moisturization, jojoba oil, which has healing properties including having some of the highest levels of antioxidants and nutrients, and all-natural aromatic essential oils derived from plants including lavender and chamomile.  You are sure to feel completely at peace by the end of the massage.

As with all self-care routines these days, finding an activity you can do yourself is key. Luckily, the best part of this massage is that you can do it right in the comfort of your own home. With just a few simple steps, you will be on your way to pure and utter relaxation.

Start by pouring some of our Natural Body Oil into the palm of your hands and gently rub your hands together to warm up the oil.  Next, start with your scalp and massage using circular motions. Start by massaging your face, rubbing the oil into your jaw, cheekbones, ears, and other tension points, again always in a circular motion. This promotes good blood circulation throughout. Next move down to your chest, massaging your neck, chest, arms and stomach. Move towards your thighs, legs, and bottom. Finally, finish by massaging your toes and the soles of your feet. These parts can carry a lot of stress, especially for those of us who are constantly on our feet all day, so it’s important to take special care.  After you are finished massaging, let the oil sink in to the skin for about 20 minutes, and then rinse. As the seasons change and the weather gets colder, we suggest finishing off by using the Spa Body Butter in Lavender and Rose to lock in much needed moisture.

With everything going on right now in our world, we want to bring to you a small bit of relaxation. We hope massaging with our Natural Body Oil brings you peace and allows you indulge in special moments of self-care.
