Four Reasons to use Organic, Clean Skincare

Four Reasons to use Organic, Clean Skincare

These days, it is easy to succumb to the latest beauty fad we see on Instagram, TikTok, or in magazines.  You might not be aware of the harsh chemicals, evasive dyes, and harmful ingredients in products you use in your daily routine. That is why the switch to clean beauty is so very important. There are countless benefits of going clean, from helping the environment to your own health. What’s not to love about having clean, glowing skin, while saving the planet at the same time?

1— Quality Ingredients

A lot of times, the rule of thumb is that if you cannot pronounce an ingredient on a label, you probably should not buy it. Non-organic skincare products often contain synthetic ingredients, parabens, harsh fragrances, and toxins that are often residues from pesticides. Many of these added toxic ingredients can also cause skin irritation, organ toxicity, and even cancer. It is also noted that in non-organic products, active ingredients only make up 5-10% of total contents of the product. Active ingredients, are products within skincare that actually work to address important skin concern the product is meant to target (i.e., acne, age spots, wrinkles etc.) In organic skincare, those active ingredients make up around 95%.

With our organic Luxury Face Oil, you see the ingredients, and you also know them as well. From pure organic rosehip oil, to rose and jasmine essential oils, you know exactly what you are putting onto your skin.

2— Helping the Environment

Interestingly enough, switching from non-organic to clean beauty helps with sustainability. Most skincare products on the market contain compounds such as petroleum, aluminum, and lead. As a result, these products are taken from natural rainforests and precious land, which destroys hundreds of various ecosystems in one fell swoop. Not only that, but the containers that many of your products come in are made primarily made with non-biodegradable materials.

With organic skin care products, many of the ingredients used are grown without harming the environment. In addition, they do not use pesticides or fertilizers, which can kill the earth and your skin at the same time. This adds greater help to the environment because there is no harm to animals for byproducts. We are proud to be among countless brands focused on using our planets natural resources and are certified cruelty free through the Leaping Bunny Program.

3— Non-Allergenic

The ingredients lists of conventional products are quite lengthy and nearly impossible to pinpoint what has caused an irritation or reaction. However, the good thing about switching to organic skincare is that you have a lesser chance of having the same thing happen to you. For one, there are no harsh ingredients, perfumes, or dyes. On the off chance that you do develop a rash, organic ingredients allow you to see the list and more easily eliminate that specific ingredient.

4— Supporting Cruelty-Free Products

What’s better than supporting the environment, having healthy skin, AND saving the animals? Nothing, that’s right! By using organic beauty products, you can almost guarantee that the product was not tested on animals, and if you are curious, always look for a “cruelty-free” label either on the product or in the description. These products do not need to be tested on animals because organic products are already safe to use.

We are proud to be certified cruelty-free so you can feel at ease when selecting the very best organic and all-natural products for yourself and others!

Why You Should Care About the Integrity of Your Skincare Products

Why You Should Care About the Integrity of Your Skincare Products

Clean skincare has been an emerging topic in the wellness industry over the past year, and we think that this is one of the most critical issues that we as consumers and as a brand endure. The US has not passed a law regulating personal care products since 1938. Therefore, major brands have been cutting corners by using less expensive and toxic ingredients. Having clean skincare products that are cruelty free, locally sourced, non-toxic, and vegan is our upmost priority. Unfortunately, this thinking is somewhat rare within the wellness industry.

Sustainability

Not only will you be saving precious animals by using cruelty free makeup, but you'll also be contributing to the fast growing “green movement.” Brands that create vegan and organic products often use recycled products for their packaging meaning that products that would normally clog landfills are instead used to create the packaging of their cosmetics. For example, all of our packaging at Nourish and Refine is reusable – down to our empty candle containers. Landfills around the country are brimming with trash and toxic materials and supporting brands that are responsible with their packaging and waste is critical.

Integrity of Ingredients

Non-vegan makeup and wellness products are LOADED with bacteria that can clog your pores, inflame your skin, create a rash, provoke acne prone skin, and irritate sensitive skin. Traditional wellness products typically include “lanolin (wool grease), squalene (shark liver oil), carmine (crushed-up beetles), gelatin (cow or pig bones, tendons or ligaments), allantoin (cow urine), ambergris (whale vomit) and placenta (sheep organs)” according to The New York Times. Personally, we do not believe in exploiting the environment or animals to create wellness products. In our line of products, you will find 100% natural and organic ingredients, down to the soybeans made to create soy wax for our candles.

Supporting A Mission You Believe In

Since the conversation around clean beauty is a hot topic in 2020, brands are now embracing financial inclusivity by offering products at all range of prices. Another perk is that when you buy from local brands and small businesses, you are helping to boost the local economy and give your dollars to a mission and set of values that align with yours.

Why Choose All-Natural Skincare?

Why Choose All-Natural Skincare?

Don't sleep on the natural skincare movement. While we may think these products are just marginally better for our bodies while not blowing our beauty budget – adjust your mindset.  All-natural products are incredibly important, not just for the quality and integrity of the ingredients, but also for these reasons:

1

Supporting “green” brands that offer all-natural products is a step in the right direction.  Take your advocacy to the next level and consider tossing your over-manufactured and potentially toxic skincare products.  Products made from conventionally manufactured ingredients not only clog your pores, they harm our environment.  Once discarded, these harsh chemicals seep into our soil, ending up in our water, and lurks around in our home.  Yuck!  One of our favorite all-natural products is our very own Luxury Face Oil. This every day moisturizing face oil is made with natural anti-aging rosehip oil and a blend of all natural, aromatic essential oils derived from plants, with a base scent of rose and jasmine.

It is better for your body!  Carefully thought out ingredients can actually boost your skin’s overall well being, while harsher chemicals are automatically absorbed by the bloodstream.  Whatever you choose to apply on your skin, up to 70% of that is directly absorbed!  Consider your skincare products as carefully as the food you decide to eat. Another one of our favorite natural products is our Natural Body Oil. Our deeply hydrating body oil soothes your skin and brings out your natural and radiant glow. It’s made with sweet almond oil, organic jojoba oil, and a blend of all natural aromatic essential oils derived from plants with a base scent of lavender and chamomile.

Sensitive Skin Rejoice!  Truly natural products have a much lower risk of irritating your skin.  Those of us with sensitive skin know the pain of applying a new face mask, and having our face red, bumpy, and swollen by the time we remove it.  Think about it this way – the better the quality of the ingredients, the more your skin will improve.  We are a huge fan of Ursa Major products, they are: free from petrochemicals, SLS, SLES, parabens, synthetic fragrance or color, glycols, silicones and PEGs.  Our “go-to” natural mask is Ursa Major’s Bright and Easy Flash Mask.
